We appreciate the traditional and handmade work, so we decided to support or cooperate with different workshops, which preserve traditional art work or increase employment of Tibetan refugees.
Sewing rooms ProTibet Tailoring
In 2014 we established another sewing room based on fair trade in Dharamsala. The first one was built in 2011 in Ladakh in the Himalayas. Their purpose is to educate the poor Tibetan women and offer them a job in a region with high unemployment. Since 2011 we have trained both men and women, and expanded the range of products with traditional clothing and textile accessories.
The first sewing room has been operating since 2013, independently of our assistance. As for the second sewing room, located in Dharamsala where the Dalai Lama resides, we have been helping it to ensure sales of textile accessories through Czech companies. In order to expand our portfolio of textile products we also started with preparation of designs of screen-printing techniques. We also collaborate with the Institute of Tibetan art.
Products from these weaving rooms include woven shawls, rugs, bags and knitted hats and socks. They are produced by nomad women in Ladakh and women in a village near the Tibetan border Demul. These activities came up as the initiative of local active women, who provide sustenance to their families and support local school.
In 2014 we started to cooperate with an art glass workroom staffed by young Tibetan artists. From their original works made of Murano glass we brought glass beads to the Czech Republic, which can be bought in our e-shop.
In our e-shop you can get traditional Tibetan handmade products from nomadic Tibetan women who work in sheltered workshops. We also work with many other handicraft shops. We have been supporting all of these shops by purchasing their products, which in turn we sell at our events or as corporate or VIP gifts.
